Pedro Peduzzi reports from Agência Brasil

In a statement made Monday (May 29), Brazil’s Minister for Transport, Ports, and Civil Aviation Maurício Quintella said he plans to sign the contracts for four airports recently ceded to the private enterprise by July 27. The new concessions should materialize in 2018.

Quintella attended a meeting with President Michel Temer along with the presidents of the airport operators that won the auction for the airports in the cities of Fortaleza, Salvador, Florianópolis, and Porto Alegre. After the signing of the deals, the concessionaires will be given three months to operate alongside Brazil’s national airport authority INFRAERO before they can take over for good.

According to the minister, the investors seemed very confident in their business, despite the crisis facing the country. “No accounts have been made on concerns by the businessmen during the meeting. They’re enthusiastic about having won the contract for these airports,” he said.
